MAC X MAGGIE
Meet Black and Decker
BLACK |
DECKER
MEET BLACK and go
through the stages of her life.
Black is a female
and about the same size as her sister, Decker,
maybe ever so slightly larger at this stage.
They both looked nice and big and healthy when
they were born.
Black has what is known as a "mismark".
She is most certainly 100% guaranteed a purebred
but she has a white lightning shaped mark on her
chest and a white toe. It is very obvious now at the size
she is at, but as she gets bigger the white will
get smaller. Mismarks are not uncommon in
Labrador Retrievers
and are only an issue if you are planning to show
your pup.
Some people refuse to buy a Lab with a mismark for
lack of education - believing that it means the
dog is not a purebred - others prefer the
mismarked Labs as it makes their pup unique, plus
it is an excellent means of visible
identification. For more information on
Labrador Retriever Mismarks see the links below.
2 days - Black
eats and sleeps - lots of milk available so she
has grown noticeably since she was born.
Unfortunately Black is very hard to photograph
with her black features so the pics of her are not
very good and the ones I took of her mismark are
blurry. Come back soon and check for better
pics. On Day 2 Black was already up on all 4
legs attempting to walk.
Black is priced at $800

22 days - Black keeps up with her sister, Decker.
They are both big, big girls - both affectionate
and starting to really want to play.
37
days - Black & Decker were both taken to the
vets for an early check. Black had an ever
so slightly noticeable weakness in her hind end
and we thought we'd have the vet take a look at
her as we had someone who was very interested in
putting a deposit on her and we wanted to make
sure she was 100%. We were shocked to find
out that the weakness in her hind end was a
non-issue but that she had a heart murmur. A
severe one. And we were even more shocked to
learn that Decker also had a heart murmur - though
not as serious as Black's. The vet agreed
that we should put Black down. We didn't
have the heart to do it as she was happy and
seemed 100% healthy and wasn't suffering so we let
her live with the idea that maybe the vet was
wrong and a bit of time might make a change or
that we would just let her live out her
life. One Saturday night 1 day before she
turned 8 weeks old Black was more energetic than
ever. To this point the only signs of
anything wrong were a bit of shortness of breath
if she played to hard and she slept a bit more
than the other pup. The night before she
turned 8 weeks old she was full of energy and
playing like crazy - no one would have noticed
anything. Sunday morning she was
dead. We were actually quite happy as
she did live her full life and we did not have to
put her down - she did not suffer as far as we
know except for at the very last and it lasted
about 20 seconds. She was a happy fun little
pup and she helped us learn a bit more about
breeding.
Our new policy will be to have all pups checked
for murmurs when they go for dew claws at 2 days
old.
